WC teams beat Hill, Coyotes clinch regionals berth

Both Weatherford College basketball teams defeated Hill College Wednesday night at the Graber Athletic Center, and the WC men's team clinched a berth in the NJCAA Region V Tournament in the process. 

The Coyotes beat Hill 84-71 to improve to 20-9 overall and 8-5 in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play. WC is tied with Ranger College for second place in the conference, with one regular season game remaining this Saturday. 

Wayne Wiggins led the way against Hill with 24 points. Jamie Hodges added 17 points, Donato Joseph had 12 and Tyson Whybrew added 10. 

The Coyotes out-rebounded the Rebels 52-27. 

WC took the women's game 73-71. Janavia Gage had an impressive 23 points and 20 rebounds in the win. 

The Lady Coyotes overcame a 10-point halftime deficit, outscoring Hill by 12 in the second half. 

Trinitee Johnson finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds, and Jacque Giron posted 11 points.  

After struggling early in the season, the Lady Coyotes have won three of their last four games. WC is 11-17 overall and 6-9 in NTJCAC play. 

Both Weatherford teams finish the regular season on Saturday, March 9, against Temple College at the Graber Center. The women's game tips off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
