The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is more selective in 2020, and several Weatherford College alumni have made the cut for the prestigious event.

In previous years, the rodeo was open to the top 200 competitors in the world. Now, as the rodeo moves to the new Dickies Arena, a new tournament style format is restricting the field to only the top 40 from the 2019 world standings, the top 10 from the 2020 world standings and the 12 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) circuit champions.

WC alumnus and former CNFR qualifier Leighton Berry will compete in bareback riding Feb. 3-4. Berry is currently ranked third in the PRCA world standings.

Seth Cooke, WC’s assistant rodeo coach and also a former Coyote, will compete in tie down roping Jan. 24-25.

Other WC alumni headed to Dickies Arena include tie down ropers Lane Livingston, Timber Moore, J.D. McCuistion and Tyler Milligan; steer wrestlers Clayton Hass and Don Payne; team ropers Ryan Motes, Tate Kirchenslager, Lane Ivy and Cory Kidd; and barrel racer Stevi Hillman.

“Each contestant will compete twice in back-to-back performances within a pool of eight contestants,” said Johnny Emmons, WC head rodeo coach. “The top two money-winners from each pool advance to the semifinals, the third place winner from each pool advances to a wild card round, and then all compete again with the top eight advancing to the final round.”
