WC softball picked first in conference

The softball coaches of the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) have picked Weatherford College as the favorite to win the conference title in the upcoming 2020 season. The poll of the nine NTJCAC head coaches was released Thursday.

"It's nice to have the respect of the other coaches in our conference and to be chosen to finish first," said Haylee Williams, WC head softball coach. "But, as all coaches know, pre-season polls don't win you championships so we are excited and ready to go out and get back to work!"

The coaches picked the following order for the conference standings: Weatherford first, North Central Texas second, McLennan third, Vernon fourth, Temple fifth, Grayson sixth, Cisco seventh, Hill eighth and Ranger ninth.

The Coyotes are returning from a 34-21 season, their eighth winning season in a row. Weatherford finished fourth in the NTJCAC and third in the Region V North postseason tournament.

WC begins its 2020 campaign Feb. 1 at Kilgore, with the home opener Feb. 5 and conference play starting Feb. 29.
