WC basketball teams split with Grayson and Ranger

The Weatherford College basketball teams faced Grayson College at the Graber Athletic Center Saturday afternoon and then traveled to Ranger College Monday. Both WC squads came away from the long weekend with one win and one loss.

The Lady Coyotes lost to Grayson 71-65 Saturday. Anna Jefferson-Polk led WC with 15 points while Destiny McAfee scored 13 with 10 rebounds. Grayson's Manna Mensah led all scorers with 19.

The WC men beat the Grayson Vikings in impressive fashion, 98-78. Two Coyotes scored 20 points each: Jared Simmons and D'Michael Bellfield. Simmons added 10 rebounds.

On Monday in Ranger, the Lady Coyotes won 62-56.

The Coyotes lost to the No. 1 ranked Ranger College Rangers, 83-65. After being held to 19 points in the first half, Weatherford made a strong effort with 49 second-half points. Erik Talton scored 23 for WC, and Bellfield added 12 points with 12 rebounds.

The Lady Coyotes are 16-3 overall and 4-1 in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. The WC men are 14-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Both Weatherford teams will be at home Wednesday night, facing Collin at 5 and 7 p.m.
