There are only three regular season games remaining in Weatherford College’s basketball season, and the Lady Coyotes are neck-and-neck with Collin College for the top spot in the conference standings after WC defeated Ranger Monday night, 57-47 at the Graber Athletic Center.
Weatherford is 22-5 overall and 10-3 in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play. First place Collin is 11-3 in the NTJCAC, and Weatherford travels to Plano to face Collin for what could be the conference title game Wednesday night.
On Monday night, WC fought back from a 10-point first half deficit and finally took the lead for good in the fourth quarter. Destiny McAfee and Adela Valkova each had 6 points in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 12 points apiece. Anna Jefferson-Polk added 11 points total.
The Ranger men, ranked No. 3 in the nation, defeated the Coyotes 89-62. The Rangers (26-2, 11-1) had four players in double figures and shot 50 percent from the field. D’Michael Bellfield led Weatherford with 21 points. The Coyotes are 15-12 overall and 3-8 in conference.
