Lady Coyotes enter regional tournament Wed.

The Weatherford College Lady Coyotes enter postseason play Wednesday night in the Region V Women's Basketball Championships held in Abilene.

The Lady Coyotes will face No. 10 New Mexico Junior College at 7 p.m. in Abilene Christian University's Moody Coliseum.

Weatherford (19-7) is the third seed from the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, while New Mexico (24-4) is the second seed from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.

The Lady Coyotes led the NTJCAC with 79.2 points per game; New Mexico averaged 77.1. The Thunderbirds are shooting 47.8 percent from the field (fifth highest in the nation); WC is shooting 40.2 percent. WC has the fifth highest rebound margin in the nation with 15.5; New Mexico's rebound margin is 7.7.

Destiney McAfee leads WC in scoring with 14.4 points per game along with a team-leading 6.9 rebounds. Thamires Andrade is New Mexico's top scorer at 13.3 points per game while Sydnee Wynn is averaging 11.8 points and 8.9 rebounds.

The winner of the three-round, single elimination tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament. Bob McKinley's squad is looking for its first national tournament berth in six years.
