Two WC athletes sit in first place at mid-season rodeo break

Zaine Mikita, tiedown roping, and Brie Wells, barrel racing, are each sitting in first place in the Southwest Region standings representing Weatherford College rodeo going into the mid-season break.  

Several team members are in the top 10 in their respective events, the women's team is currently third overall, and the men's team is seventh in the field of 16 teams that make up the Southwest Region.  

The team wrapped up their fall schedule at the Texas Tech University Rodeo this past weekend in Lubbock with 21 members qualifying for the short go.  

In bareback riding, Bubba Holcomb tied for ninth in the first round with a score of 73, came back in the finals with a 76, placing fifth, and his 149 points on two head was good for sixth overall. Brayden Tyrer, who won seventh in the opening round with a ride of 77.5 points, came back with a score of 70 for seventh, and his 147.5 on two was good for seventh overall.  

Colton Greene was seventh in the first round of steer wrestling with a run of 6.3, recorded a 17.7 in the finals for seventh place, and his 24.0 on two runs finished seventh overall.  

Freshman Team Ropers, Jett Stewart and Cashton Weidenbener won second in the first round with a run of 6.2 but had an NT (no time) in the short go, finishing sixth overall with a 6.2 on one head.  

Cable Wareham won second in the first round of saddle bronc riding with a score of 76 points, but an NS (no score) in the finals left him in eighth place overall on the weekend.  

Zaine Mikita continued his win streak in tiedown roping. Mikita came third in the first round with a run of 9.4, sixth in the finals with a 21.1, and finished fifth overall with 30.5 on two head. Cole Clemmons won fourth in the opening round with a time of 9.6, but an NT in the finals left him eighth overall. Lane Webb won sixth in the first round with a 10.7 but suffered an NT in the finals, leaving him ninth overall.  

In barrel racing, Kenzie Cook ran an 18.63, good for ninth in the first round. She came back with a 19.09, good for fifth in the finals, and her 37.72 on two runs finished fifth overall. Reagan Laney won second in the first round with an 18.06, but a hit-barrel-penalty-run of 23.24 was seventh in the finals and her 41.30 on two finished seventh on the weekend. Bradi Good ran an 18.54 for seventh in the first round, but her 22.91 in the finals placed seventh, and her 41.45 on two placed eighth overall. Londyn Ross was eighth in round one with an 18.62, ninth in the finals with a 23.14, and her 41.76 was ninth overall.  

In bull riding, Dawson Gleaves won fifth in the first round with a score of 69.5, bucked off in the finals, and finished eighth overall.  

In steer roping, Trent Sorey won the opening round with a 13.1, came third in the finals with a 15.0, and finished second overall with his 28.1. Cash Fretwell tied for fourth with Raesch Casebolt with runs of 16.7. Fretwell came back with an NT in the finals and finished sixth overall, while Casebolt was seventh, Chance Thiesen eighth and Cayden Harmon ninth.
