About College Rodeo at WC

WC is a member of the Southwest Region of the NIRA which comprises the geographical area of every member school west of IH 35 in Texas to the New Mexico Border, including ENMU in Portales, and NMJC at Hobbs, NM.

Students provide their own travel and expenses traveling approximately 6,000 miles to compete at the 10 Southwest Regional Rodeos.

Each member is required to join the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and pay $260. membership dues. Students must be enrolled in 12 hours per semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA to be eligible to compete in college rodeo.

Each member is required to provide $400. in sponsorship/Advertisement’s in the Media Guide to support the WC Rodeo Booster Club.

Entry fees at the College Rodeo’s are $60. per event plus a $20. office charge at each rodeo. Each Rodeo is one complete go round with top 10 in each event advancing to the short go. Rodeos start on Thursday evenings, with slack each morning and the short go on Saturday evening.

CNFR (College National Finals Rodeo) in Casper, Wyoming each June, the top 3 contestants in each event from the regional standings, the top 2 men and women all-around contestants, and the top 2 men’s and women’s team all qualify to compete at the CNFR.
