The Weatherford College men's basketball team started the conference season with a statement win, defeating the reigning league champions McLennan Community College in Waco Saturday, 85-80.
WC's Ramondo Battle led all scorers with 24 points. The six-foot-eight-inch freshman hit five of eight three-pointers and pulled down seven rebounds.
Four other Coyotes finished in double-figures: Jaden Rogers (16), Joey Madimba (14), Rodney Johnson (12) and CJ Evans (11).
WC improved to 13-2 on the season and have won seven of their last eight games. MCC dropped to 14-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
In the women's game, No. 8 MCC won 74-56. Binetta Diata scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds for the Highlassies (14-1, 2-0).
Deja Lumsden led WC in scoring with 13 points. Adreanna Waddle had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
