WC’s Meged wins breakaway roping title at Portales rodeo

Weatherford College's Harley Meged won the breakaway roping title at the Eastern New Mexico University rodeo in Portales this past weekend.  

After tying for second in the opening round with a run of 2.3, she came back with a 2.2 to win the finals, and her 4.5 bested the field of 218 breakaway ropers.  

Brie Wells, a former College National Finals Rodeo qualifier and part of the 2022 women's national championship team, won third overall after posting a 2.6 in the first round and a 2.7 in the finals.  

Freshman Kaydence Tindall won the opening round with a 2.2 but finished fourth overall after an 11.9-second run in the finals.  

Bradi Good, also part of the national championship team, placed 10th out of 175 barrel racers.  

For the men, freshman Pax Vogel won the opening round of tie down roping with an 8.4-second run. He came back with a 12.0 in the finals for sixth place and finished fifth overall with 20.4 on two headColton Greene finished eighth overall.  

Cayden Harmon tied for third in the opening round of steer wrestling with a 4.5 and finished sixth overall.  

In team roping, WC's Lane Webb teamed up with Beau West of Ranger College to turn in an 8.7 for ninth place in the first round. They came back with an 8.3, good for fourth, and their 17.0 on two ended up fifth overall.  

Chisum Allen (Sul Ross State University) and Cole Clemons won six overall; Jett Stewart and John Hisel (South Plains College) finished eighth; and Clayton Huston and Catcher Gasperson placed ninth. 

Jackson Ford took ninth overall in saddle bronc riding.  

Up next is the Sul Ross State University Rodeo in Alpine, Sept. 21-23.
