Huffman, Bunting rope in championship title
Weatherford College rodeo finishes strong at Howard College, eyes Tarleton Stampede
Weatherford College's Zane Huffman and partner Bryce Bunting from Ranger College brought home the team roping championship title from the Howard College Rodeo this past weekend in Big Spring.
The duo placed fourth in the opening round with a 6.2 and first in the finals with a 5.6, and their 11.8 on two brought home the title.
Ketch Kelton from Cisco College and WC's Cashton Weidenbener, the No. 19 team roping heeler in the nation, placed fifth. WC's Mason Stueve and team roping partner Trey Adams from South Plains College tied for ninth place with WC's Pax Vogel and partner Travis Staley from Tarleton State University.
In steer roping, Catcher Gasperson won second with 35.8 on two head, and Jake Shelton placed 10th.
Lane Webb's 22.6 on two was good for third in tiedown roping.
Mitchie Story placed sixth in saddle bronc with a 156.5 on two.
Jacee Graff placed seventh in goat tying after a second-place finish in the first round. Graff is currently No. 3 in the nation in goat tying. Teammate Kynlie Stevens finished ninth.
Brent Applegarth finished seventh in bareback.
In barrel racing, Ainslee Philippi placed fourth with a 32.01 on two, and Brooke Crenshaw finished seventh with a 32.81 on two.
Mecate Trammell placed seventh in bull riding.
WC rodeo completes its regular season April 24-26 at the Tarleton Stampede in Stephenville.
