Former Coyote signs pro softball contract

Former Coyote softball player, Morgan Rackel, now plays in the NPF for the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois.

Rackel recently wrapped up her senior season at Austin Peay State University. The pitcher posted a 43-16 career record with the Governors in her two seasons with a 1.68 ERA and 446 career strikeouts. She was named to Softball America's Top-100 players in the country.

The native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada transferred to Austin Peay after two seasons at WC, where she earned Second-Team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honors as a sophomore.

This is the first season in the NPF for the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois, a franchise composed mostly of players who are members of the Canadian National Team – currently ranked third in the world behind only Team USA and Japan. The NPF also includes a team made up mostly of Australians (the Aussie Peppers of Minnesota) and a franchise of Chinese players (Beijing Shougang Eagles) along with teams in Chicago, Cleveland and Central Florida.

The Wild, who are based in Marion, Illinois, open their season on May 28.

Rackel is the second former Coyote to play professional softball in the program's seven-year history. Kylee Studioso played in the Italian Softball League after finishing her college career at the University of Central Arkansas in 2015.
