Coyotes win two, Villeneuve breaks RBI record

Coyotes win two, Villeneuve breaks RBI record

The Weatherford College baseball team extended its first-place lead in the conference standings with two road wins over Temple College on Saturday, 7-2 and 13-2.

The Coyotes (34-9 overall, 17-3 conference) have a four-game lead over McLennan Community College and a six game lead over Temple and Ranger College after the weekend's action.

Robin Villeneuve broke another WC school record. One week after passing the home run record, the sophomore from Canada hit two more home runs and six RBI, which gave him 71 RBI on the season, surpassing the mark set by Chase Sarchet in 2015. Villeneuve is third in the nation in RBI among Division I NJCAA players.

In game one, Jack Arthur hit two home runs and finished 2-for-4 with four RBI. Ryne Rodriguez scattered five hits over six and two-thirds innings, allowing one earned run while striking out seven.

In game two, Eddie Calzoncit added a home run of his own and four RBI. Layden White was 2-for-3 with two runs. Garrett McLaughlin earned the win, allowing just two hits and two runs over five innings with five strikeouts.

The Coyotes begin a new series with a doubleheader against Cisco College at noon on Wednesday, April 19, at Roger Williams Ballpark.
