WC closing in with Cisco sweep

Weatherford College has a seven-game first-place lead with eight games to play in the conference baseball standings after wrapping up a four-game sweep of Cisco College Saturday in Cisco.

WC is 38-9 overall and 21-3 in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. Temple College is 18-10 in conference, and McLennan Community College is 14-10.

Weatherford is looking for its second conference baseball title; its first was in 2004, in the program's second season.

The Coyotes won the first game on Saturday 5-4. Robin Villeneuve broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run.

Davin Ronquist earned the win in relief, giving up one hit and one run with no walks and two strikeouts over the final two innings.

WC took the second game 11-3, ending early due to the run rule.

Villeneuve hit another home run, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBI as well as two walks. He ranks third in the nation in home runs with 21 and second in the nation in RBI with 80.

Garrett McLaughlin scattered six hits over four innings, allowing just two runs and one walk while striking out two.

WC has two four-game series remaining against Grayson College and Ranger College. Only two home doubleheaders remain in the regular season, Wednesday, April 26, at noon vs. Grayson and Saturday, May 6, at noon vs. Ranger. The Coyotes will host the Region V Tournament at Roger Williams Ballpark May 12-16.
