WC baseball clinches conference title, breaks record for wins

The Weatherford College Coyotes clinched the 2023 conference baseball championship with two wins over Grayson College on Thursday at Roger Williams Ballpark.

It is the program's second league title; the 2004 Coyotes won the championship in the college's second year of intercollegiate baseball. WC has a 23-3 record in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, seven games ahead of second-place Temple College.

At 40-9 overall, it's also the most wins in school history, breaking the record held by the 2010 and 2015 WC squads.

Weatherford won game one 11-0. Robert Fortenberry threw a gem, allowing just three hits, no runs and no walks while striking out six Grayson batters.

Jack Clark hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning. Robin Villeneuve and Dayton Tockey also hit home runs.

Game two was a 6-2 WC victory. Villeneuve moved to the pitcher's mound and earned the win, allowing three hits and no runs in three innings while striking out four.

Joey Baran added a grand slam of his own in the bottom of the third. Louka Daoust also homered.

WC hosts Grayson again Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
