Coyotes remain No. 3 in the nation

Despite a ton of movement in the rest of the poll, the Weatherford College baseball team held its ground at No. 3 in the Week One National Junior College Athletic Association Division I rankings released Monday. The Coyotes (12-4) were also No. 3 in the preseason poll released Jan. 22.

Florida's Gulf Coast State College (16-1), which wasn't ranked in the preseason poll, is No. 1 in the Week One poll. Tyler Junior College (14-2) also wasn't included on Jan. 22 and is now ranked No. 4.

The only other Texas school in the latest rankings is No. 14 Temple College (12-3).

The WC pitching staff ranks fourth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings (12.48). Offensively, Aledo freshman Trace Mazon is tied for eighth in the nation in doubles with eight in 16 games.

WC will host the New Mexico Military Institute (11-4) on Friday and Saturday, March 1–2. The Friday doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., and the Saturday doubleheader starts at noon.
