WC pitchers impress in wins over Hill

Weatherford College's pitching staff continued to dominate in two wins over Hill College on Wednesday at Roger Williams Ballpark, 5-0 and 9-1. 

The Coyotes had a 30-inning scoreless streak going until the seventh inning of game two. The WC staff ranks fifth in the country in ERA (3.11). 

Robert Fortenberry, the national leader in wins (11-0), was sharp in game one, allowing no runs, five hits and two walks while striking out four.  

Preston Newberry drove in two runs. Kasen Wells scored twice and had two walks. 

Cody Morse earned the win in game two, with only four hits, no runs and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings. 

Trace Mazon drove in three runs, going 2-for-4. Luka Daoust was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Dayton Tockey hit a solo home run and scored twice. 

The No. 8 Coyotes are on a six-game winning streak, improving to 38-12 overall and 20-6 in conference play.  

WC travels to Hillsboro on Saturday for another doubleheader. The Coyotes' final home games of the year are on Saturday, May 4, against McLennan Community College in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
