WC men beat Collin by 1, improve to 19-5

Collin College missed a game-tying free throw with 0.7 seconds on the clock, Weatherford College's Jaden Rogers grabbed the rebound, and the Coyotes walked away with a 72-71 win in Plano Wednesday night. 

Weatherford's Rodney Johnson had another big game with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Wayne Wiggins had 15 points, C.J. Evans had 13 and Rogers added 11. 

The Coyotes overcame a nine-point halftime deficit, outscoring Collin by 10 in the second half. Overall, WC shot 42 percent from the field and made seven three-pointers. 

WC improved to 19-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play. 

In the women's game, No. 8 Collin won 78-60. 

The Lady Coyotes started strong, leading by one after the first quarter and going into halftime tied 30-30. But Collin led by seven after three quarters and didn't trail again. 

Celise Bobbitt led WC with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. 

The Lady Coyotes' overall record went to 10-12, 3-7 in conference. 

Both WC teams travel to Denison to face Grayson College Saturday, Feb. 18. They host Ranger College Monday, Feb. 20, at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center. The women's game will tip off at 5 p.m., and the men's will start at 7 p.m.
