The Weatherford College men's basketball team started the conference season with a bang Saturday, beating McLennan Community College 82-72 at the Graber Athletic Center.
Jared Washington led all scorers with 25 points. Washington was 8-of-16 from the field with three three-pointers and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Wayne Wiggins added 19 points, and Donato Joseph had 11. Handy Toussaint led the team in rebounds with eight.
The Coyotes out-rebounded the Highlanders 36 to 23.
WC improved to 12-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. MCC dropped to 14-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.
McLennan won the women's game 87-61, led by 38 points from Mersadez Nephew.
The Lady Coyotes dropped to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in conference. MCC, the No. 5 ranked team in the nation, improved to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Both WC teams travel to Plano to face Collin College on Wednesday. The Coyotes and Lady Coyotes will next play at home on Wednesday, Jan. 24, against Ranger College.
