WC to host basketball regionals March 13-16

Weatherford College will host 16 basketball teams for the NJCAA Region V Men's and Women's Tournaments from March 13 to 16 in the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center.

The tournaments will feature teams from across the north, central and western portions of Texas and New Mexico. The top four men's and women's teams from the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference and the top four from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference will face off in single-elimination formats. The winner of each tournament will earn an automatic berth in their respective national tournament.

"Weatherford College is honored to host both the men's and women's regional basketball tournaments for the first time in campus history," said WC President Tod Allen Farmer. "The economic impact on our hotels, restaurants, gas stations and the broader business community will be profound."

Multiple nationally ranked teams will play on the Graber Center court. As of the most recent NJCAA Division I polls (March 4), ranked women's teams will include No. 4 Collin College, No. 8 McLennan Community College, No. 9 New Mexico Junior College, No. 10 Odessa College and No. 23 Temple College.

On the men's side, ranked teams include No. 2 South Plains College and No. 15 Odessa College.

The Weatherford College Coyotes (20-9) will play as a number two or number three seed in the men's bracket, depending on the results of the final set of games on Saturday. WC is currently tied with Ranger College for second place in the NTJCAC.

Seedings will be released on Monday, March 11.

Tournament passes are $25 each, and day passes are $10 or $8 for senior citizens or students. Passes may be purchased online at weatherfordcollege.simpletix.com.
