WC wins two over Temple, Coyotes earn No. 2 seed

Weatherford College basketball finished the regular season with two wins over Temple College Saturday at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center.

The Coyotes won 82-76 and locked in a No. 2 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region V Tournament at the Graber Athletic Center. WC will face Odessa College Thursday at 3 p.m. The single-elimination tournament will run through Saturday.

Four Coyotes finished in double-figure scoring against Temple: Wayne Wiggins (14 points), Jared Washington (13), Hamza Ghoulial (11) and Tyson Whybrew (10).

Weatherford finished the regular season with a 21-9 overall record, 9-5 in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play, good for second place in the final standings.

The Lady Coyotes won 88-77. WC was victorious despite only playing six Lady Coyotes due to injury.

Janavia Gage continued her recent tear, putting up 21 points and 19 rebounds. Jacque Giron and Trinitee Johnson scored 19 points apiece and Selina Gutierrez had 18.

The Lady Coyotes won four of their final five games to finish the season at 12-17 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
