WC’s Washington wins Co-Player of the Year, Wiggins Defensive POTY

Weatherford College's Jared Washington won the Co-Player of the Year Award, and Wayne Wiggins was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference men's basketball awards list released this past week. 

Washington, a Mansfield Timberview High School graduate and transfer from Midwestern State University, averaged 18.8 points per game this season. The 6-foot-3-inch sophomore topped 20 points 15 times and had three games over 30 points. He shared the award with Nick Shogbonyo of McLennan Community College. 

Wiggins averaged 2.5 steals per game, best in the NTJCAC. The 6-foot sophomore from Mansfield Legacy scored 14.7 points and brought down 4.2 rebounds.   

Both Washington and Wiggins were first team all-conference selections, and Washington earned All-Region V honors.  

WC's Jamie Hodges and Donato Joseph earned third team all-conference recognition. 

On the women's side, Janavia Gage was a first team all-conference honoree. Gage led the conference in rebounds with 13.4 per game and ranked seventh in scoring with 16.4 points. The 6-3 Huntsville High School graduate also had the second-highest field goal percentage in the conference at 54 percent. 

Deja Lumsden, Selina Gutierrez and Trinitee Johnson earned honorable mentions.
