Weatherford College rodeo team member Thane Lockhart won the tie down roping competition at the Collegiate Rodeo Challenge this past weekend at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

He placed first in both rounds with runs of 8.5 and 8.9.

WC barrel racer Laney Fowler tied for first place in round one and finished fourth overall in her event. Kodey Hoss came from eighth to win fourth in goat tying. Jarett Freeman and Blake Bentley won fourth in the first round of team roping but ended up sixth overall.

Also representing WC but not advancing to the top eight finals was Sara Angelone, ninth in breakaway roping, and Corey Ryan in steer wrestling.

The collegiate challenge featured top athletes in each event from each of the 30 schools of the NIRA Southwest and Southern Regions competing in a preliminary round with the top eight in each event advancing to the rodeo performance.

The WC rodeo team heads to Odessa College Feb. 20 for their next competition.
