Wells leads Lady Coyotes following another successful weekend

Fresh off her barrel racing title at Sul Ross, WC's Briena Wells won the women's All-Around Cowgirl title and breakaway roping championship Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at the Vernon College Rodeo. 

The WC rodeo team had 18 members qualify for the Saturday night finals at the Wilbarger County Events Center. The women's team won reserve champion while the men's team tied for third place overall. 

Wells placed in both rounds, including a first-place run of 1.8 in the finals of breakaway roping, winning the title with 4.4 on two. She leads the team with 330 points following the Vernon rodeo. 

Sophie Dunn tied for third in the opening round of breakaway roping, while Londyn Ross tied for fifth and Harley Meged tied for ninth. 

Kendall Kennedy placed well at her second rodeo in three weeks in barrel racing, winning second in the opening round, coming back to win fifth in the short go, and finished third overall. While Wells won the opening round, placing seventh in the finals to end up sixth overall. Emily Williams moved up to seventh overall after placing sixth in the finals from the eighth position. 

Kristen Reaves won second overall in goat tying for the second time in three rodeos with a pair of 7.9 second runs, while Kodey Hoss placed in both rounds to finish fourth overall with 16.1 on two. 

Bubba Holcomb continued his winning ways placing for the third straight week in bareback riding. Holcomb placed in both rounds to win third overall. Jayce Harrison made his first short go of the year, finishing up ninth for the rodeo. 

In tiedown roping, Chance Theissen came from ninth place to win the short go with a run of 8.2 and finish second overall with 17.8 on two, while Colton Greene finished sixth overall with 19.8 on two head. 

In team roping, last year's Southwest Region champs Riley Kittle (Cisco) and Jace Helton placed in both rounds to win fifth for the weekend, while Chance Thiessen and Darian Gonzales (SPC) placed sixth. Brendan Bennett/Parker Carbajal tied for 10th and finished eighth and 11th, respectively. 

Trey Holston won fourth in the opening round and finished fourth overall in bull riding.
