Rodeo wraps up fall in Lubbock

2021-2022 Rodeo Team

Weatherford College rodeo wrapped up their fall rodeo schedule in Lubbock this past weekend at the Texas Tech University Rodeo.

Chance Thiessen placed in both rounds and won second in tie down roping, extending his lead in the Southwest Region standings.

Thiessen tied for first in the opening round with an 8.5 and came back in the finals with a 10.9, good for third place. His 19.4 on two placed him second overall. It was the third rodeo in a row Thiessen placed second or higher. He won the men's All-Around at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo and placed second at Vernon earlier this year, and he also sits among the top three in team roping for the season. Last year's CNFR qualifier in both events, he is currently second place in the Men's All-Around standings with 680 points.

Last year's Southwest Region champion team ropers, Riley Kittle (Cisco) and Jace Helton (WC), won the opening round of team roping with a run of 5.4 and finished up placing fourth in the finals and fourth overall for 120 points, moving them into the top five of the regional standings.

Kristen Reaves placed for the third time this season in goat tying and holds on to her second-place ranking in the regional standings. Reaves placed third in the opening round with a run of 7.2 and finished ninth with a 15.9 on two runs.

In breakaway roping, Harley Meged and Bradi Good won third and fourth in the opening round with runs of 2.2 and 2.3. Good won third in the finals and finished third overall, while Meged finished fifth for the weekend.

Bubba Holcomb continued his winning ways in bareback riding, placing third in the opening round with a score of 75, followed by a 78 to tie for second in the finals. His 153 on two rides was good for third overall. Jayce Harrison made his third short go of the year, scoring 66 and 64, placing him eighth for the weekend.

WC had three barrel racers qualify for the finals in Lubbock. Faith Furrow tied with teammate Londyn Ross for 10/12th in the opening round with runs of 17.48 and moved up to sixth overall after running a 17.47 in the finals. Ross finished ninth for the weekend. While Sophie Dunn, who won fourth in the opening round with a run of 17.36, ended up 12th after a hit barrel in the finals.

Southwest Region rodeos pick back up February 24-26 with the Odessa College Rodeo.
