Tennis brings home two sweeps

The Weatherford College women's tennis team is on a four-match winning streak, including weekend sweeps of Meridian Community College (MS) and East Texas Baptist University.

WC beat Meridian 9-0 Saturday in Plano and ETBU 9-0 Sunday in Longview. The Coyotes didn't drop a set all weekend in singles play.

Coyote No. 1 Anastasiia Khrustaleva beat Meridian's top player 7-5, 6-0 Saturday, an impressive win over a higher-ranked player.

Freshman Lina Brandt continues her hot streak as well, dropping only seven total games in her four matches since returning from injury.

"The focus on details and executing what we work on at practice has been much higher our last four matches," said Alexandra Leatu, WC coach. "There has been a distinct difference in our performance and team chemistry. We had to make some small adjustments in our daily routine and the team sees the value in that, adapting really well, especially as we move into some gritty matches coming up on the last leg of our season. Continuing to buy in will be key to our success."

Weatherford faces New Mexico Military Monday in Plano and travels to face defending national champion Tyler Junior College on Friday.
