Tennis in 14th place after nationals day 1

 

After the first day of play in the NJCAA Division I National Women's Tennis Tournament Saturday , Weatherford College sat in 14th place among 27 colleges.  WC picked up six points, winning singles and doubles matches at the tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

WC's Anastasiia Khrustaleva defeated Italia Jones of Wallace State Community College (AL) 6-2, 6-4 for Weatherford's first singles win. Michelle Markovic also won her first round singles match.

In doubles play, Coyotes Agathe Vaillant and Mia Milojevic won their first round match 6-2, 6-1.

Ally Bowen and Ana DeMata of Meridian Community College (MS) defeated Markovic and Khrustaleva, 6-1, 6-4.

The Coyotes qualified for the national tournament in their first year after two decades without the sport. Play resumed Sunday at the Reffkin Tennis Center.
