WC’s top player advances to semifinals at tennis nationals
 

 

Weatherford College's Anastasiia Khrustaleva kept her national championship hopes alive with another singles win in the NJCAA Women's National Tennis Tournament in Tucson, Arizona, Monday. 

WC's top player advanced to the main draw semifinals with a quarterfinals win over Naomi McKenzie of St. Petersburg College, 4-6, 7-6, 4-0. McKenzie retired due to an injury in the third set. 

Khrustaleva, ranked No. 7 in the country, was to face No. 2 Justine Lespes from Seward County Community College (Kansas) Tuesday morning in the Flight 1 semifinals. 

WC's Mia Milojevic lost to Mariia Koroleva of Cowley College (Kansas) 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. 

Agathe Vaillant lost to Abigail Wild of Tyler Junior College 6-1, 6-1 

Marija Ristanovic took Sakurako Suzuki of State College of Florida to three sets but lost 5-7, 7-5, 6-1. 

Jimena Ramirez of Seward County (Kansas) defeated WC's Lina Brandt 6-1, 6-2. 

In the doubles consolation draw, Khrustaleva and Markovic topped Kelly Martin and Jane League of Central Alabama 8-2. 

The pair of Ristanovic and Brandt defeated identical twin sisters Myesha and Nyesha Nealon of Hinds Community College (Mississippi) 8-1. 

The WC team is now ranked 8th in the national tournament.
