WC women’s tennis has new faces, same expectations

As he begins his second season as head coach of the women's tennis program at Weatherford College, Mitchell Vechione is excited to face the challenge of a new campaign with a completely new roster.

The program has no returners from the success it enjoyed in its first two seasons, finishing eighth in the nation in its inaugural 2021-22 season and 15th last season. All of the players on the roster this season will be freshmen or transfers in the fall and spring.

"It feels good to have a good group of guys and girls this fall, and it's going to be even better once we get the rest of our people this January," Vechione said.

On the roster so far for the women's team are Hoziane Kitambala from Burundi, Carmine Becoude from Benin and Tsitsi Claire Mahere of Zimbabwe.

"The three girls that are here now will definitely make a push for top three in the lineup [in the spring]," Vichione said. "These three are special, let me tell you."
