WC volleyball clinches second straight conference title

The Weatherford College volleyball team clinched the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship with a sweep at Temple College on Wednesday night.

At 28-3 overall and 12-1 in NTJCAC play, the Coyotes earned the conference title with one match left in the regular season. WC has a two-match lead over second place North Central Texas College.

It's the second NTJCAC title in a row for a program that is only two years old. WC has a 24-3 conference record over those two years.

Against Temple, Abby Benitez continued her defensive dominance with 27 digs. Abby Folsom registered 22 assists, and Lorena Gomez added 19. Selanny Puente was the kills leader with 11.

The Coyotes are No. 12 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division I rankings.

WC returns home for one last regular season match, Saturday at 1 p.m. against Cisco College in the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center. The Coyotes will then host the Region V Tournament Nov. 2-4. As the number one seed in the NTJCAC, they will open the tournament on Thursday, Nov. 2, at approximately 1 p.m. against the No. 4 seed from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, to be determined.
