Lady Coyotes beat Collin, Coyotes lose in OT

The Weatherford College women's basketball team won a key game for the conference standings Saturday, beating Collin College 85-77 at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center.

The win separates Weatherford (14-7 overall, 8-4 conference) and Collin (14-8, 6-4) by two games in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference standings. WC is alone in third place, just half a game behind second-place Grayson. Collin is fourth. The top four teams at the end of the regular season advance to the regional tournament.

WC's Adela Valkova had a big game, scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. Shomyra Francis and Celise Bobbitt added 18 points each.

Collin won the men's game in overtime, 88-84, avenging a Jan. 15 loss when Collin was ranked No. 6 in the country.

Matthew Okoye poured in 25 points for the Coyotes. The sophomore guard has scored at least 20 points in eight games so far this season.

Dillion Bennett had 20 points and eight rebounds.

Collin hit 14 of 31 three-pointers. John Achebe led the Cougars with 20 points.

The Coyotes are 12-12 overall and 2-8 in conference. Collin is 21-3 and 6-3.
