WC basketball wins both games at Ranger

Weatherford College won both games of a basketball doubleheader on Saturday at Ranger College. The Lady Coyotes won 71-48 and the Coyotes won 71-63. 

The Lady Coyote defense held Ranger in check, allowing just eight points in the first quarter and four in the third quarter. WC also out-rebounded RC 42-36. 

Speaking of rebounds, Weatherford's Janavia Gage pulled down 20 boards to go along with her game-leading 20 points. Jacque Giron also turned in a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists. Trinitee Johnson added 13 points. 

Weatherford improved to 9-16 overall and 4-8 in conference.  

The WC men's team has won four out of its last five after Saturday's win. The Coyotes overcame a five-point halftime deficit, out-scoring Ranger by 13 points in the second half. 

Wayne Wiggins led the way with 24 points. Tyson Whybrew had 15 points and Jared Washington added 12 points and nine rebounds. 

The Coyotes are 19-8 overall and 7-4 in conference play, good for second place in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference standings.
